Our Organisation & Strategy

Historical Background of Teri Foundation Ltd.

Back in 2020 Teri Foundation Ltd was formed by a single member Ms. KEMIREMBE TEDDY in the community as  a community volunteer in conserving nature through waste recycling and climate change , advocacy, however her  effort was always in vain as most of the community members kept a deaf ear on her calling to conserve nature, she later on persuaded the members to join effort and form a group and own the environment instead of waiting for the government to act, these members lived in the suburbs of fort portal city where their livelihoods were affected by poor waste management and the resultant climate change as all solid waste collected by Fort Portal City Council And Division authorities were dumped at the gazette landfills for example, at Kitere in Nyabukara yard and at Nyakimya near Kabundaire fresh market in the center of fort portal city, however much of the solid waste were collected by illegal land unlicensed collectors and  was disposed in ungazetted places like the roadsides, illegally constituted dumpsites ,wetlands, riverbanks like river Mpanga, streams and the drainage channels, these shameful behaviors were due to the costs involved in waste management and in accessibility of some households with poor housing planning that don’t plan for access roads for waste disposal trucks and collectors and lack of knowledge about waste management, environment protection and climate change. While as the group members stood firm to fight against poor waste dispose, it came to their knowledge that the ongoing destruction of the nature where most of the green vegetation cover was being cut down to create more space for human settlement and development widened their grave mouth as floods and strong winds wiped away their properties and lives, this forced them to fight for environment and climate justice to save their community thus forming Teri Foundation Ltd.

Teri Foundation Ltd is a grassroots level Non-profit company with strong commitment to promotion of biodiversity conservation and ensuring human welfare, climate change mitigation and adaptation through awareness raising, innovations and restoration activities, it was our vision to see that there is restoration and innovations for a peaceful coexistence of man and nature in the community by anticipating the adverse effects of climate change and taking appropriate action to prevent the damage they can cause or taking advantage of opportunities that may arise and preventing the emission of greenhouse gases(GHG) into the atmosphere and enhance the sinks.
